Graphic design is constantly evolving and adapting to changing times and changes in the world we live in. So, after the pandemic period, when design trends favoured a sense of cosy and colourful nostalgia, now it’s time for new changes, even if elements from past years are retained.

Here we’ll give you a list of the latest and greatest design trends for 2023 to help you stay informed and take your designs to the next level.

AI Design

Artificial intelligence is increasingly present in our lives and even influences the design process. Designer creativity can’t be replaced, of course, but more and more designers are now using artificial intelligence to create images that would have been almost impossible to create by hand.

Abstract 3D

This is a trend that focuses on creating abstract and experimental three-dimensional designs. Abstract 3D was inspired by digital sculptures and installations and is increasingly used in both animation and virtual reality

Mysticism

This is a type of design that involves the combination of iconographic elements related to divination and astrology. It’s a trend that relies heavily on folk symbolism, the zodiac, lotus flowers and sacred geometry.

It is a design characterized by soft, thin lines and organic, gentle curves, soothing and neutral colours, as well as symbols and signs that evoke peace and a meditative state.

Risoprint reinterpreted

The Risograph technique emerged in the mid-1980s and was introduced by the Riso Kagaku Corporation of Japan. It was characterized by desaturated color dots, resulting in unintentionally stylized images with double exposure.

In 2023 this type of design is reinvented through abstract digital graphics, resulting in surreal images with a vintage feel. Another distinctive element of this type of design is the strong, vibrant imagery and abstract shapes.

Return to punk

In the year 2023 we see a global revival of punk style in many aspects, from fashion to graphic design. This style is characterized by graffiti or “doodle” type text, cut-outs and collages, as well as opulence and strong colours. Although on a theoretical level it’s a design that may seem messy, the key is controlled clutter.

Linear, minimalist, retro

This type of design is characterised by simplicity and an almost cartoonish air, as well as minimalism and a retro feel reminiscent of 1950s magazine illustrations, and fits in with a nostalgic trend in our society.

Airbrush Surrealism

With the help of new filters and tools in graphic design, in 2023 surrealism is combined with the typical look of airbrush illustrations. These processes involve superimposing filters and techniques over the images, which gives a uniform ‘hazy’ feeling, blurring colours and outlines and giving the impression of a light and pleasant glow. The overall look is surreal, almost dreamlike.

Botanic popular

Elements from nature are still trending, especially flowers, leaves and fruit, but in 2023 they become less refined, with less defined edges, more “shaky” and with rougher textures.

It is a trend that reinterprets themes inspired by nature but with a certain naivety of design, sending us back to our roots, to some ancestral vibes.

Psychedelic space inspired by the ‘90

The aesthetics of the 80s and 90s are still very much in vogue, so we find this trend in graphic design too. In this case, this type of aesthetic combines elements of space with that psychedelic air of overlapping and strong colours typical of the 90s.

Combined dimensions

As we spend more and more time online and less and less time in real, physical life, the boundaries between the two dimensions are becoming increasingly blurred, and graphic designers have completely blurred this boundary in 2023 by combining digital illustrations with real photographs.
